Intravenous oxygen administration in a rat model of hypoxia.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Hypoxemia reduces tissue oxygen delivery, thus compromising cell metabolism and organ function. Supplemental oxygen at high concentrations may prove ineffective and issues relating to hyperoxia, barotrauma, mechanical ventilation and extracorporeal oxygenation are well documented [1,2]. A century ago, Tunnicliffe et al reported rapid and safe relief of cyanosis in patients by administration of intravenous oxygen gas [3]. This re-discovered route warrants re-exploration.

Flaxseed Can Reduce Hypoxia-Induced Damages in Rat Testes
Introduction: Hypoxia is a common leading cause of detrimental effect on structure and function of tissue during increase in the production of reactive oxygen species that are generated during the re-oxygenation phase of intermittent continuous hypobaric hypoxia and contribute to physiological responses. This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of flaxseed (Fx) in reducing the inciden...
متن کاملTempol relieves lung injury in a rat model of chronic intermittent hypoxia via suppression of inflammation and oxidative stress
Objective(s): Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is confirmed to cause lesions in multiple organs, especially in the lung tissue. Tempol is an antioxidant that has been reported to restrain inflammation and oxidative stress, with its role in OSA-induced lung injury being unclear. This study aimed to investigate the beneficial effect of tempol on chronic intermittent hypoxia (IH)-induced lung injury....
متن کاملBlockade of Hypoxia: The Impact on Tumor Growth in an Experimental Tumor Model
Background: Tumor microenvironment is an active factor participating in immunoregulation, thereby preventing immunosurveillance and limiting the efficacy of anticancer therapies. Hypoxia as a major characteristic of solid tumors causes the expression of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α (HIF-1α). This is a transcription factor that mediates hypoxic responses of tumor cells and involves in the express...
متن کاملOral administration of Ginkgolide B alleviates hypoxia-induced neuronal damage in rat hippocampus by inhibiting oxidative stress and apoptosis
Objective(s): The aim of this study is to explore the potential neuroprotective effects of Ginkgolide B (GB), a main terpene lactone and active component in Ginkgo biloba, in hypoxia-induced neuronal damage, and to further investigate its possible mechanisms.Materials and Methods: 54 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: the untreated control group (n=18); the hypoxia gro...
متن کاملExploring alternative routes for oxygen administration
BACKGROUND Hypoxemia may compromise cell metabolism and organ function. Supplemental oxygen (O2) at high concentrations may prove ineffective, and issues relating to hyperoxia, barotrauma, mechanical ventilation, and extracorporeal oxygenation are well documented. Old reports suggest the potential safety and efficacy of alternative routes for O2 administration, such as intravenous or intestinal...
